I remember as a kid that my parents, grandparents, and aunts and uncles used to take me and my cousins to Hammonasset Beach in Connecticut. It was not too far from where we lived and as I’ve gotten older, my aunt still likes to take me!
Well, now my aunt and my family want to take Jolie everywhere because who cares about us parents, right?!
Jolie has never seen the ocean before, so as much as I felt bad about my husband missing this special moment, even he insisted I not pass up the opportunity.

Of course a trip to Hammonasset would not be the same without my aunt. After all, this beach is Connecticut’s largest shoreline park at over 2 miles of beach so my aunt knows exactly where to park and walk from.

I did remove Jolie’s socks and sneakers and she hated the feel of the sand! She was wiping her feet forever before I could put them back on. Something about the texture with toddlers – some kids love it but not mine! Jolie doesn’t even like fuzz from new socks in between her toes.
We enjoyed the walk along the beach and then of course went to our favorite Lenny & Joe’s Fish Tale nearby. It’s your typical casual restaurant of fantastic seafood. The lobster rolls are the best with warm lobster covered in butter on a toasted bun; yum, yum!
Thanks Aunt Ann for a great day out! One day soon we’ll go back when we can actually go in the water!
Tips:
- Learn from my mistake, bring a pair of sandals or at least a second pair of shoes in case the first pair gets wet!

Brings back memories, I went there with a group of friends after my prom in 1985. I remember when my kids were little they didn’t like the sand between the toes either…water shoes helped a lot with that!

Yes so true Zoe! I’ve been a bad mom and too cheap to buy them as we are never in the sand. I wish we had more time at a beach so she could get used to it! 1985? You are so cute
