Imagine a place called Kidcity

July 9, 2012

Can you imagine a place named Kidcity?  Well, in Middletown, Connecticut is exactly that!  It’s a children’s museum called Kidcity that’s “for one-to-eight-year-olds and their favorite grown-ups.”   It’s all indoors, and there are many rooms and 3 levels that cater to different ages.

For us, the basement was a perfect place to start as it is for 3 and under.  All the walls are painted like an aquarium and there are a couple of areas for your toddler to climb and slide that still make you feel like you are swimming in a coral reef somewhere.

There were parents there with their newly crawling infants too as no shoes are allowed in this space and it’s relatively clean.

The top floor has an area that is catered more toward the older kids but we still brought our walking and climbing toddlers up there so they could slide on a normal sized slide.

I wouldn’t say this is a tourist destination by any means, but it’s a great play space for the kiddos and gave me time to have a “playdate” with my cousin Anna while the kids wandered around.

For us adults, the best part is Sweet Harmony Bakery & Cafe right across the parking lot.  The people are nice and the food is fabulous!  One of my new favorite places now while visiting Connecticut!

-There is a designated area for snacks so plan this into your visit.
-Recommend no more than 2 hours here, especially for the infant and toddlers.  We were there just over 2 hours and probably could have kept it to 1.5 hours plus snack time.
-Do not bring in your strollers as they have a “stroller parking” area and that’s about as far as you will get.  If you do not have a sling for your infant then ask at the front desk as they have one you can borrow.
-If you live in the area, you can join as a member.  They have designated play hours they offer just to members which I imagine helps avoid the crowds at times.
-Bring cash for parking as the lot is not free and it is monitored.  Avoid a ticket!
-If this is your first visit, ask the person working the front desk for your kid’s free prize.  They let you pick from a select group of items and Jolie was a very happy girl leaving here (which we found out about because it was left as a “tip” on foursquare, thank you!).
-Highly recommend lunch at the Sweet Harmony Bakery & Cafe next door (158 Main St, Middletown, CT).  Make reservations if possible and note this place is small.  Delicious and super kid-friendly!
